I’m getting excited for next week’s Global Scrum Gathering® San Diego 2017, and thought I’d share some thoughts on the MANY wonderful session attendees can choose! If you are as excited for these as I am, and haven’t yet registered, reserve your spot today.
Here are my suggestions for what to do on Day 2 at #SGCAL!

10:30 – 12:00 Open Space: Opening the Space
If you have experienced a Scrum Gathering Open Space, you know the usefulness, intensity, and joy that comes from a self-organizing conference experience. If you haven’t, you MUST try it no matter how weird it sounds! It’s a good thing, I promise.
I always participate in Open Space at any conference that has this type of event. I usually propose a session so I can meet and talk with other people at the conference who are interested in applying Agile principles and practices to data-focused work. My responsibility as the “proposer” is to be at the designated place on time, welcome people, and kick off the discussion. I don’t show up with anything prepared – rather just find out what people are interested in as they arrive, then facilitate a discussion on those topics of interest.
I also try to capture the highlights of the discussion so we can post them on-line (usually the conference has a way for all sessions to post their key take-aways), so anyone else who is interested in the topic but couldn’t attend gets an overview.
If someone else beats me to the microphone and announces a similar session, then I gladly join theirs and get the same benefit as if I’d proposed it myself!
Didn’t I say there are a lot of amazing sessions this year at the Scrum Gathering? I’ve only covered Monday’s and Tuesday’s sessions! My next post will cover the Scrum Gathering events scheduled for Wednesday, April 12.
